•New vanadium complexes 3–5 based on 8-hydroxyquinoline derivative were synthesized.•Molecular structure of obtained complexes depends on used solvents.•Catalysts 3–6 showed activity in olefin polymerization in the presence of Et2AlCl.•Resulting polymers have high melting points with relatively low molecular weights.
A series of oxovanadium (IV, V) complexes stabilized by [OON]2- type ligand – 7- (hexafluoro-2-hydroxypropane-2-yl)-8-hydroxyquinoline (2), have been synthesized in high yields; the structures were confirmed by NMR, EPR, and IR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, X-ray diffraction and elemental analysis. Depending on reaction conditions di-, tetra- or hexanuclear complexes 3–5 were obtained. It was demonstrated that in the presence of Et2AlCl/CCl3CO2Et, vanadium (V) complexes catalyzed polymerization of ethylene with activities up to 1000 kg of PE (mol of V)−1 h−1 atm−1.
Graphical abstractA have series of oxovanadium (V and IV) complexes based on 7-(perfluoro-2-hydroxypropane-2-yl) -8-hydroxyquinoline been synthesized in different solvents. Coordination compounds 3–5, activated by diethylaluminum chloride and in the presence of ethyl trichloroacetate, were studied in the polymerization of ethylene and showed activities 170–1000 kg PE/(mol of V*atm*h).Figure optionsDownload full-size imageDownload as PowerPoint slide
