Abstract
The kinetics of the oxidation of Np(V) by Ce(IV) have been studied in perchlorate media using stop-flow techniques. At an ionic strength of 2·0, the rate of disappearance of Ce(IV) is first order with respect to the Np(V) and Ce(IV) concentrations, and is essentially first order with respect to the hydrogen ion concentration. The activation energy parameters of the reaction are determined and the reaction mechanisms consistent with the observed rate laws are discussed.
