•Hpytza metal [Co(II), Mg(II), Ca(II)] complexes were prepared.•The luminescence properties of 2 and 3 were investigated in the solid state.•The thermal stabilities of 1–3 were discussed.
Reactions of Hpytza (Hpytza = 5-(2-pyridyl)tetrazole-2-acetic acid) with M(NO3)2 (M = Co(II), Mg(II), Ca(II)) with the presence of KOH under hydrothermal conditions, produced three novel coordination compounds, [M(pytza)2(H2O)2] (M = Co(1), Mg(2), Ca(3)). These compounds were structurally characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 shows mononuclear structure while 2 and 3 reveal 1D structures via bridging pytza as linker. Furthermore, the luminescence properties of 1–3 at room temperature in the solid state were investigated and the thermal stabilities of 1-3 were discussed, as well.
