Abstract

Microwave irradiation of toluene solution of mixed-chalcogen clusters [Fe3(CO)9(μ3-E)(μ3-E′)] (E, E′ = S, Se or Te, and E ≠ E′) with ethynylferrocene and TMNO·2H2O afforded 2,5-diferrocenyldiselenine (1), 2,5-diferrocenylselenophene (2), 2,6-diferrocenylthiine (4) and 2,5-diferrocenylthiophene (5), and the adducts Fe2(CO)6{(μ-E)2C(Fc) = CH} [E = Se(3), S(6)]. 1–6 have been characterized by IR, and 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopy. Structure 1 was established by single crystal X-ray diffraction method.

Graphical abstract1, 4-Diselenine has been synthesized by reaction of [Fe3(CO)9(μ3-E)(μ3-E′)] (E, E′ = S, Se or Te, and E ≠ E′) with ethynylferrocene and in presence of TMNO·2H2O under microwave irradiation. Crystal structure of diselenine molecule described shows trans orientation of two ferrocenyl groups.
