•Imidazolium coupled to triazole in an unprecedented fashion has been prepared.•Corresponding palladium–NHC complexes have been prepared and fully characterized.•Their catalytic activity in the Suzuki–Miyaura reaction (SMR) has been evaluated.•High tolerance of the geometry of the triazole in the SMR has been established.
New imidazolium–triazole adducts have been synthesized. Their coordination to palladium has been studied and the catalytic activity of the corresponding complexes has been explored in the Suzuki–Miyaura Cross Coupling.
Graphical abstract«Non-natural» NHC–triazolyl palladium complexes (i.e. featuring a N to N connection between the imidazolydenyl and the triazolyl moieties) have been accessed from azidoethylimidazolium. Their catalytic properties have been compared to their «natural» counterpart.Figure optionsDownload full-size imageDownload as PowerPoint slide
