Abstract

•Syntheses and characterization of “star-like” osmium cluster.•1H and 13C NMR full assignment of [{Os3(μ-H)(CO)10}3{1,3,5-(μ-SCH2)3C6H3}].•X-ray structural analysis confirms the C3 symmetry with three linked osmium trinuclear clusters.•Cyclic voltammetry measurements showed a one-electron irreversible reduction process.

The cluster [{Os3(μ-H)(CO)10}3{1,3,5-(μ-SCH2)3C6H3}] has been prepared by the reaction of [Os3(CO)10(NCMe)2] with 1,3,5-tris(mercaptomethyl)benzene under mild conditions; the cluster has been fully characterized by IR, NMR spectroscopy, HR-MS, X-ray crystallography and its redox behavior is also described.
