A series of novel bifunctional silacyclobutanes and silacyclopentanes of the formula types (CH2)nSi(CH2X)2 and (CH2)nSi(CH2X)CH2X′ (n = 3, 4; X, X′ = functional groups) was synthesized, starting from (CH2)4Si(CH2Cl)2 and (CH2)3Si(CH2Cl)2, respectively. The silacyclobutanes and silacyclopentanes were structurally characterized by elemental analyses (C, H, N, S) and multinuclear NMR spectroscopy, and their reactivity was explored. The aim of these investigations was to compare the different reactivity profiles of analogous silacyclobutanes and silacyclopentanes.
Graphical abstractA series of novel bifunctional silacyclobutanes and silacyclopentanes of the formula types (CH2)nSi(CH2X)2 (e.g. I) and (CH2)nSi(CH2X)CH2X′ (e.g. II∙HCl) (n = 3, 4; X, X′ = functional groups) was synthesized, starting from (CH2)3Si(CH2Cl)2 and (CH2)4Si(CH2Cl)2, respectively. The different reactivity profiles of the analogous silacyclobutanes and silacyclopentanes were compared. Figure optionsDownload full-size imageDownload as PowerPoint slide
