The structures of intermediates in the PTC carbonylation of two fluorinated benzyl halide substrates were studied. X-ray crystal and molecular structure of 2- and 3-fluorobenzylcobalt tricarbonyl triphenylphosphine derivatives was determined. The supposed influence of structural parameters on the reactivity is discussed.
Graphical abstractFluorinated phenylacetic acids were obtained from the corresponding benzyl halides using cobalt catalyzed PTC carbonylation. The structure and distribution of intermediates was studied and characterized.Figure optionsDownload full-size imageDownload as PowerPoint slideHighlights► PTC carbonylation of 2- and 3-fluorobenzyl halide. ► X-ray determination of 2- and 3-fluorobenzylcobalt tricarbonyl triphenylphosphine. ► X-ray determination of 3-fluorobenzylcobalt tricarbonyl tricyclohexilphosphine. ► Study on the influence of structural parameters on the reactivity.
