Organonickel complexes with α-diimine ligands play an important role in electrocatalytic C–C or C–P cross coupling reactions. The review summarises recent insights into the reaction mechanisms of such reactions obtained by electrochemical experiments, electrosynthesis and spectroelectrochemistry (UV–vis–NIR or EPR). The (formal) oxidations states of the involved nickel species range from Ni(0) to Ni(III).
