The new anthracene-based, bitopic bis(pyrazolyl)methane ligand 1,8-bis(4-[bis(1-pyrazolyl)methyl]phenyl)anthracene (1,8-[4-CH(pz)2C6H4]2C14H8) has been prepared by the cobalt-catalyzed reaction between thionyldipyrazole and 1,8-bis(4-formylphenyl)anthracene. The reaction between 1,8-[4-CH(pz)2C6H4]2C14H8 and Re(CO)5Br yielded the dirhenium complex {μ-1,8-[4-CH(pz)2C6H4]2C14H8}[Re(CO)3Br]2. The solid state structure of this complex displays extensive noncovalent interactions, particularly CH–π and π–π interactions.
