Two polymorphs of an highly active nickel(II) salicylaldiminato polymerization catalyst are reported, which to our knowledge represent the first examples of polymorphism of catalytically active polymerization catalysts. The two structures differ significantly in the coordination geometry of the central metal atom. Lattice energy calculations were used to analyze the different solid state structures.
