Highly crystalline rhombohedral boron nitride (r-BN) with regular triangular shapes were synthesized on a large scale in a stainless steel autoclave using B2O3 and NaNH2 as reactants at 600 °C for 6 h. The as-prepared BN triangular nanoplates have an average edge length of 400 nm and the thickness of about 60 nm. The photoluminescence measurements reveal that the r-BN products show strong yellow-green emission. The as-prepared r-BN has potential optical and optoelectronic applications in high temperature devices due to its excellent thermal stability and anti-oxidation properties.
