Abstract

•A new zinc-1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylate framework has been synthesized.•Three distinct subunits (SBUs) are observed in 1 simultaneously.•The integration of three distinct SBUs leads to an unusual structural topology.

A new metal-organic framework (MOF) [Zn5(btc)3(H2O)0.5(O)0.5(DMA)3]·1.75(DMA) (1; btc=1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylate; DMA=N,N′-dimethyl acetamide) has been solvothermally synthesized. Unusually, three distinct subunits (SBUs), [Zn2(CO2)4(DMA)2], [(μ3-H2O)Zn3(CO2)6(DMA)] and [(μ4-O)Zn4(CO2)6(DMA)2] are observed in 1 simultaneously. The integration of three distinct SBUs leads to an interesting Zn-btc framework materials with unusual structural topology.
