Abstract
•Nineteen species of Apocynaceae were tested for pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs).•Seventeen species were tested for the first time.•Lycopsamine type PAs are present in Echites umbellatus and Parsonsia oligantha.•This is the first report of PAs in floral nectar.•PAs are detectable in 13 year old dried leaves stored at room temperature.
