Abstract
•This is the first report of the chemical composition of G. quadriflora Munby.•Eighteen compounds were identified in the plant.•Quinolizidine and piperidine alkaloids are chemotaxonomic markers for Genista.•Pohakuline confirms relationship of Genista with the Ulex-Stauracanthus clade.
