Abstract
Based on the six gene-enzyme systems with a total of 12 presumptive loci, it can be concluded that the Thailand and Hawaii isolates of P. cantonensis are genetically very similar, with a genetic distance of DÂ =Â 0.03. The very low proportion of polymorphic loci (PÂ =Â 0.08) in the Hawaii isolate and its absence in the Thailand isolate may be attributed to founder effect (a special type of genetic drift).
