Abstract
⺠The Strecker and Bucherer-Bergs reactions of 4-ulose afford four cyanohydrin isomers. ⺠Preferential formation of one cyanohydrin isomer was surprisingly observed. ⺠The structures of all isomers were unambiguously established by X-ray crystallography.
