•A new class of (1,4-phenylene)bis(arylsufonylpyrazoles and isoxazoles)were prepared.•The Michael acceptor 1,4-bis-((E)-2-(arylsulfonyl)vinyl)benzene was prepared.•Bis(isoxazoles) exhibited greater activity than Bis (pyrazoles).•The chloro substituted bis(isoxazoles) exhibited pronounced antimicrobial activity.•Presence of electron withdrawing substituent on the phenyl ring enhances the activity.
A new class of (1,4-phenylene)bis(arylsufonylpyrazoles and isoxazoles) were synthesized by 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of nitrile imines and nitrile oxides to the 1,4-bis((E)-2-(arylsulfonyl)vinyl)benzenes in the presence of chloramine-T. Compound 7f exhibited pronounced antimicrobial activity.
Graphical abstractA new class of (1,4-phenylene)bis(arylsufonylpyrazoles and isoxazoles) were synthesized from bis(sulfonyl) activated olefin and studied their antimicrobial activity. Compound 7f exhibited pronounced antimicrobial activity.Figure optionsDownload full-size imageDownload as PowerPoint slide
