Cisplatin (cis-diamminedichloroplatinum(II), CDDP) is one of the most potent anticancer drugs used against several tumours. In this work, the comparison of two different methods of cis-platinum/carbon nanotube (CNT) system preparation is shown. Oxidised CNTs and two solvents (dimethylformamide (DMF) and water) were chosen for the preparation of CDDP-containing drug delivery systems. The results of performed analyses show remarkable differences in CDDP location, and this depends on the type of applied solvent. Drug location strongly influences the kinetics of CDDP delivery and changes the in vitro behaviour of cisplatin. Obtained results show that the method of CDDP adsorption from water solution, applied for drug delivery system preparation, leads to better results for small concentrations than the application of DMF. By contrast, if very fast cell death is necessary, DMF should be used as a solvent.
