Abstract
A mesoporous carbon has been synthesized by an ionothermal carbonization of glucose or fructose at low temperature under ambient pressure. The success of this ionothermal approach was based on the suppressed solvent volatility and latent acidity of a protic ionic liquid. The carbonaceous material obtained can be applied to conformal carbon coatings and carbon composite fabrications.
