Abstract
A number of poly-Schiff bases and low molecular model Schiff bases were prepared by polycondensation of aromatic diamines with aromatic dialdehydes under varying conditions. The structure and properties of these polymers were investigated to determine degrees of polycondensation, and the nature of the end groups, as well as the optical spectra, electrophysical properties and behaviour during heating and in solution. The properties of poly-Schiff bases as compounds containing a conjugated π-bond system were investigated in relation to the main chain structure of the polymers.
