Abstract
A purple emitting monomer, namely 5-(benzo[d][1,3]dioxol-5-yl)-2,3-dihydrothieno[3,4-b][1,4]dioxine (EDOT-MDOB) was synthesized via Stille coupling reaction and was characterized by FT-IR and NMR. The corresponding blue-light-emitting polymer poly(5-(benzo[d][1,3]dioxol-5-yl)-2,3-dihydrothieno[3,4-b] [1,4]dioxine) P(EDOT-MDOB) was prepared with high redox activity and fluorescence quantum yields. Optical band gaps of P(MDOB-EDOT) were determined from the overall absorption and found as 1.59Â eV. Smooth and homogeneous P(EDOT-MDOB) remained constant color of dark brown under different applied voltages. Electrochromic switching studies showed that P(EDOT-MDOB) exhibited moderate transmittance with good stability in the visible and near-IR region.
