Abstract

•P(Py-co-EDOT) copolymer prepared by simple electropolymerization technique.•Structure characterized by FTIR, XRD, SEM/EDX, and elemental analysis.•Physicochemical properties of the new copolymer studied by means of TG–DTA, DSC, and CV.•Quantum chemical calculations have been made to interpret the polymerization on molecular level.•Electrical properties and iodine doping process have been studied.

A copolymer of pyrrole (Py) and 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) was electrochemically synthesized on ITO electrode by using potentiodynamic method in acetonitrile with tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate (Bu4NBF4). The product poly(pyrrole/3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) P(Py-co-EDOT) was characterized via CV, FTIR and SEM. Copolymer film has distinct properties, i.e., these were homogeneous and exhibited good electrochemical properties.
