•Synthesis of axially disubstituted silicon phthalocyanine.•Synthesis of phthalocyanine carrying redox active metal center.•Investigation of electrochemical properties of metallophthalocyanines.
The first amphiphilic axially disubstituted silicon phthalocyanine 5 and peripherally tetra-substituted manganese phthalocyanine 6 bearing 1,2,4-triazole units were synthesized and characterized for the first time in this study. The new compounds were characterized by using IR, 1H and 13C NMR, UV–vis and mass spectroscopic data. The electrochemical properties of amphiphilic axially disubstituted silicon phthalocyanine and peripherally tetra-substituted manganese phthalocyanine bearing 1,2,4-triazole units were investigated by cyclic (CV) and square wave voltammetry (SWV) techniques. While MnIIIClPc showed only metal based reduction reactions, SiIVPc showed only ligand based reduction reactions as expected. Cyclic voltammetry revealed two reduction couples and one oxidation couple for SiIVPc 5 and MnIIIClPc 6.
