•This manuscript is a review article.•All zinc complexes investigated in OLEDs are presented.•This article is focused on Organic Light-Emitting Devices.•Zinc complexes are mostly used in three different applications.•Zinc is an abundant and inexpensive metals for OLEDs mass-production.
In the course of developing low-cost organic light-emitting devices (OLEDs) while facilitating the manufacturing process, the search for new emitters based on abundant, inexpensive, and nontoxic metal complexes is of crucial importance. In this aim, Zn(II) complexes appeared as a potential alternative to expensive transition metals complexes based on iridium, platinum, or osmium. This review aims at reporting the different zinc complexes that have been investigated to date in devices and to determine the electroluminescence specificity related to these complexes.
