•New quinquethiophene end-capped anthracene.•Solution processed organic thin film transistor.•Ordered crystalline structure.
The new organic semiconductor which is composed of antracene core unit and dihexylquinquethiophene on both sides, 2,6-di(5″-bromo-5,5⁗-dihexyl[2,2′,5′, 2″, 3″, 2‴,5‴,2⁗]quinquethiophene)anthracene (ANT5) was synthesized by bromination, Grignard reaction and Suzuki coupling reaction. The structure of obtained material was confirmed by NMR, FT-IR and mass spectrometry (MS), and the physical properties were characterized by UV–vis spectroscopy, cyclovoltammetry (CV), differencial scanning calorimetry (DSC), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). ANT5 showed good solubility in common organic solvent such as chloroform and toluene, which could fabricate OTFTs device as solution process. It exhibits field effect performances – the mobility, on/off ratio, and VTH of the ANT5 were 6 × 10−4 cm2/(V s), 1.44 × 104, and −1.9 V, respectively.
