Abstract
In this paper, a definition of the damage variable is introduced. By means of non-equilibrium thermodynamics, a relation between the damage variable and a certain component of the plastic strain tensor was derived. The damaged material was considered as a binary system. This concept allowed us to use the relation between the effective electric resistivity and the damage variable. From the best fitting of the above relation with the measured data of the effective electric resistivity, we obtained the dependence of the damage variable on the certain component of the plastic strain tensor.
