Abstract

A novel blue-emitting phosphor Ba2B2O5:Ce3+ was synthesized by a solid-state reaction. The phase formation was confirmed by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) measurements. The Ba2B2O5:Ce3+ phosphor shows an intense blue emission peaking at about 423 nm upon 350 nm excitation. The critical quenching concentration of Ce3+ in the Ba2B2O5:Ce3+ phosphor was about 5 mol%, and the concentration quenching mechanism was the dipole–dipole interaction. This phosphor shows a good thermal stability at high temperature (200 °C). The CIE color coordinates can be adjusted around blue light by changing the doped Ce3+ concentration.
