Abstract

This paper is a comprehensive theoretical study on the influences of stochastic feature parameters of yarn on elastic properties of plain-weave composite. The compliance (or stiffness) of yarn is obtained by introducing the Taylor expansion of local stochastic variable metric basis and applying orientation averaging method. Volume averaging method is then employed to compute the elastic properties of plain-weave composite. The lower and upper bounds of the impacts of stochastic feature parameters of yarn on elastic constants of the composite can be obtained by utilizing isostress and isostrain conditions. The numerical results show that the elastic constants of plain-weave composite are determined by the comprehensive effect of definite statistics of feature parameters of yarn. Once the statistics of feature parameters of yarn are determined, the influences of stochastic feature parameters of yarn on elastic properties of composite can be quantified.
