Abstract
Investigation was carried out concerning moisture absorption behavior of a three-dimensional (3D) braided carbon/Kevlar/epoxy hybrid composite by immersing in Hank’s solution at 37 °C for up to 1700 h. Sorption curves were obtained and characteristic parameters D (diffusion coefficient), k (sorption rate), and Me (maximum moisture content) were determined. Similar to two non-hybrid composites, the moisture absorption of the 3D hybrid composite followed a Fickian behavior and no hybrid effect on D, k, or Me was found. The influence of moisture uptake on the flexural and shear properties was examined and discussed in this work.
