Abstract

The self-assembled monolayer (SAM) of 2-{[(2-sulfanelphenyl) imino] methyl} phenol was prepared on the copper and characterized using Tafel polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy in sodium chloride media. The results of electrochemical measurements indicate, when the self-assembling time, concentration of the SAM solution and temperature was increased, the inhibition efficiency increased. The results of Tafel polarization and impedance methods were in good agreement. After self-assembling for 6.0 h in (1 × 10−2) M SAM solution, the SAM was able to protect the copper against corrosion about 99%. This compound followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Effect of temperature indicated chemisorption of self-assembled molecule.

► The studied compound is suitable thin film for corrosion protection. ► This compound follows the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. ► The results indicate chemisorption of SAM molecules on copper surface.
