Abstract
⺠Ti3AlC2 and TiAl were corroded at 800-1100 °C for up to 180 h in Ar-0.2% SO2 gases. ⺠Ti3AlC2 corroded according to the equation: Ti3AlC2 + O2 â rutile-TiO2 + α-Al2O3 + (CO or CO2). ⺠TiAl corroded according to the equation: TiAl + SO2 â rutile-TiO2 + α-Al2O3 + TiS + TiS2. ⺠The formed α-Al2O3 protected Ti3AlC2 from aggressive corrosion.
