Abstract
Electrochemical and surface analysis studies on the passivation of Alloy 22, implanted with S at concentrations up to 2 at.%, in deaerated 1Â M NaCl solutions indicated that, although there was very little influence from the S in the near-surface region on the corrosion current in the short term, the presence of S caused a small reproducible effect on the corrosion potential that was related to the amount of S present. However, there was strong evidence that S enriched on the surface of Alloy 22 during corrosion under normally passive conditions in deaerated NaCl solutions.
