Abstract
It is not feasible to use tungstate alone as a corrosion inhibitor in industrial cooling water systems due to its low oxidising ability and high cost. In the present work the co-inhibition characteristics of sodium tungstate was evaluated along with potassium iodate. Detailed studies were carried out to investigate the effect of oxygen in the inhibition process. The nature and strength of the passive film and the mechanism of its formation are explained based on detailed studies conducted under different static and dynamic conditions.
