Abstract
The critical potentials for pitting are reviewed, under the scope of their relation with the crevice corrosion mechanism. A short review of the correlation between pitting corrosion and crevice corrosion with the Tafel’s law is made. Some problems observed in the mechanistic description of crevice corrosion are pointed out. The use of Tafel’s law measurements in the understanding of the mechanism of pitting is also mentioned.
