Abstract
⺠We identify oxidation characteristics and kinetics of Alon and SiC-Alon composites. ⺠The starting oxidation temperature of Alon is observed to be about 1000 °C. ⺠SiC particles remarkably enhance oxidation resistance of Alon at 1100 °C and 1200 °C. ⺠Oxidation kinetics changes from linear (Alon) to logarithmic (composite) weight gain. ⺠We use Pilling-Bedworth ratio to estimate the role of oxidation layer in ceramics.
