•Large relative cooling power have been observed in (La0.7Y0.3)0.7Sr0.3MnO3.•This compound may be suitable as a refrigerant material.•The magnetocaloric property has also been analyzed considering Landau theory.
Magnetic and magnetocaloric properties of polycrystalline (La0.7Y0.3)0.7Sr0.3MnO3 compound have been studied. The compound undergoes a second order paramagnetic to ferromagnetic phase transition near the room temperature (TC ∼ 320 K). The magnetocaloric entropy change and relative cooling power are considerably large. In addition to that the magnetic hysteresis in this compound at the vicinity of the transition temperature is negligible. Our experimental magnetocaloric response of the compound has been analyzed by considering the Landau theory of magnetic phase transition.
