Abstract

•Bi2S3 microflowers were fabricated by using a sacrificial-template method.•The effect of the specific experimental parameters was examined.•Photoelectrochemical measurements were characterized.

Uniform hierarchical Bi2S3 nanostructures were fabricated by using Bi2O2CO3 nanoflowers as a sacrificial template through a hydrothermal reaction with an aqueous l-cysteine solution. Multiple techniques, such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Mott–Schottky (M–S) plot and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were applied to investigate the structure, morphology and photoelectrochemical properties of the as-prepared samples. This work demonstrated a simple and cost-effective strategy for the design and fabrication of well-defined complex hierarchical nanomaterials, which can be potentially used in energy storage and conversion devices.
