Abstract

•Flower-like V2O5 has been synthesized by a template-free solvothermal method.•The formation process of the flower-like V2O5 was investigated.•Flower-like V2O5 shows a superior electrochemical performance.•The excellent performance is ascribed to its unique hierarchical structure.

In this paper, a facile and template-free solvothermal method has been developed to synthesize flower-like V2O5 hierarchical architecture. The as-synthesized V2O5 samples are composed of discrete and uniform micro-flower, which is further assembled from several nanosheets. Importantly, the as-synthesized flower-like V2O5 hierarchical architecture exhibits an excellent electrochemical performance. At the rate of 0.1 C, these V2O5 flowers deliver a high specific capacity of 285 mA h g−1 in the first discharge and retain reversible capacity of 249 mA h g−1 after 50 cycles. Meanwhile, even at a high rate of 5 C, they also exhibit a specific capacity of 152 mA h g−1 and the cycling retention rate is 86% after 50 cycles.
