•CuO–CeO2 composites have a mesoporous structure.•Highly efficient catalysts for the oxidation of CO with its high content in the gas mixture.•The shape of pores and pore size distribution at similar particle size and specific surface insignificant influenced on the temperature of CO full conversion.
The new modified sol–gel method of obtaining copper oxide–ceria composites was developed. The use of mixed sols for a uniform distribution of the components in the resulting composite was demonstrated. It was shown that these composites are highly efficient catalysts for the oxidation of CO with its high content in the gas mixture (full conversion temperature of 60–65 °C), but the shape of pores and pore size distribution at similar particle size and specific surface insignificant influenced on the temperature of CO full conversion.
