•First synthesis of carbon nanomaterial in glide arc plasma in hypergravity.•The gravity level influences the plasma discharge and therefore also the material synthesis.•The structure of the deposited material depends on gravity level.•Deposition process is influenced by gravity driven convection.
A nanostructured carbon material was synthesized using a methane/helium glide arc plasma under standard and increased gravity. Material analysis performed on samples collected from an effluent gas filter showed that the deposited material was present in the form of carbon nanoparticles. They exhibited graphitic structure and their morphology depends on the gravity level.
