A novel solution-based approach for the metathetic synthesis of hydrated MnV2O6 driven by microwave energy has been successfully demonstrated. The metathetic pathway of synthesizing this technologically important material is confirmed by the presence of high lattice energy by-product NaCl as per the reaction.MnCl2+NaVO3⟶aqMnV2O6+2NaClThe structural, optical, chemical and magnetic properties of synthesized compound were examined by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), magnetic measurements, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and UV–vis diffused reflectance spectroscopy. The optical band gap of the material is measured to be 2.15 ± 0.2 eV. Finally, magnetic properties of the spin 5/2 analog hydrated MnV2O6 have been determined.
