•High-quality Sr2.91V2O8:0.06Eu3+ phosphor is prepared by solution combustion method.•The combination of bluish-green and red emissions gives a white light emission.•The Sr2.91V2O8:0.06Eu3+ is a promising white-emitting phosphor for LED.
A white-emitting Sr2.91V2O8:0.06Eu3+ phosphor is prepared by the solution combustion method. The excitation spectra of the phosphor, ranging from 250 to 400 nm, match well with the characteristic emission of near-ultraviolet (UV) light-emitting diodes (LEDs), indicating that the phosphor can be effectively excited by near-UV light. The emission bands resulting from the (VO4)3− group and Eu3+ cations indicate the bluish-green and red emissions, respectively, leading to a white light emission. The single-host Sr2.91V2O8:0.06Eu3+ can be applied as a white-emitting phosphor.
