Abstract

•New phosphor K4SrSi3O9: Eu3+ was successfully obtained by the solid state reaction.•The excitation, emission spectra and decay time of Eu3+ have been analyzed.•The dopant occupies two different Sr sites in the host structure.•The quenching temperature (T0.5) was equal to 610 K.

K4SrSi3O9 doped with Eu3+ has been for the first time obtained by the conventional solid-state reactions. The X-ray powder diffraction confirmed that prepared materials were single phase. The excitation, emission spectra and decay time of the emitting level have been measured. The influence of Eu3+ concentration on luminescence properties has been analyzed. The luminescence intensity of this material at 100 °C is equal to 94% of emission intensity recorded at room temperature, and makes the material a good candidate for commercial phosphors.
