Abstract

Synthesis and optical properties of novel TeO2–GeO2–Li2O glasses possessing non-linear optical properties are reported. Differential thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction, Infrared and UV/VIS spectroscopy were complementarily applied to study the structural, thermal and optical properties of this ternary system. The value of the refractive index of the glasses is about 2.10. Second harmonic and third harmonic generation is observed after thermo-electrical poling.

► A glass containing TeO2–GeO2–Li2O was obtained. ► By UV–Vis was established that the glass is transparent above 420 nm. ► The strucutural features of the glasses were investigated by DTA, FTIR, XRD and SEM. ► The value of the refractive index of the glasses is about 2.10. ► Second harmonic and third harmonic generation was observed.
