Abstract
Efficient luminescence is reported for the first time in Eu2+ activated double iodides KI·2BaI2 and KI·2SrI2, as well as CaI2. The emission intensities are comparable to that of the commercial phosphor (BAM, Sylvania 2466 blue). Eu2+–Mn2+ energy transfer is also demonstrated for CaI2 host. The excitation spectrum covers near UV region. It is suggested that these phosphors will be useful for the solid state lighting applications.
