Abstract
The design of a cladding pumped, erbium doped, microstructured fiber amplifier is refined via a tailor made computer code which takes into account the transitions of the rare earth ion populations, the electromagnetic power propagation of pump and signal, the secondary ion–ion interactions. A gain close to G = 32.7 dB is simulated for a fiber about 53.4 m long at the signal wavelength λs = 1536 nm, for a pump power Pp(0) = 3 W and a co-propagating signal power Ps(0) = 100 μW.
