Abstract
The detwinning process of {3 3 2}〈1 1 3〉 mechanical twins during β-phase-region treatment has been investigated in a cold-compressed β titanium alloy with a body-centered cubic crystal structure. The twins transform back into matrix via rapid collective migration of the twin tip, where higher Gibbs free energy exists due to the combined effect of an incoherent interfacial structure and a high stress concentration caused by twinning strain. The driving force of the detwinning is the decrease in the interfacial energy and strain energy.
