Abstract
In this work, preliminary results are presented on attempts to develop a new family of titanium alloys with high ductility induced by combined transformation-induced plasticity and twinning-induced plasticity effects. Mechanical tests carried out on a binary β-metastable Ti–12 wt.% Mo alloy designed by a formulation strategy based on the “d-electron alloy design” show a very high work hardening rate. X-ray diffraction, electron backscattered diffraction and transmission electron microscopy reveal the mechanical activation of twinning and of α′, α″ and ω phases.
