Abstract
The variant selection of lenticular martensite transformed from austenite in an Fe–25Ni–0.5C alloy uniaxially compressed at 973 K was investigated quantitatively. It was found that four variants with habit planes closely parallel to the compression plane were favorably formed. Preferential growth along elongated austenite grains parallel to the compression plane was proposed for the selection of variants since it involves fewer disturbances at the austenite grain boundaries.
